PSTL

PSTL (Paul Sebastian & Teenage Luck) are two young, upcoming, energetic DJs and producers. PSTL consists of Paul Sebastiaan Deetman (1990) and Jelle Anton Jansen (1990).

Once in a while you find those lost old break beats that remind you of a long time ago. At least, that’s the case with Paul. As a little break-dancer Paul loved to show his dancing skills to his friends and family. Being surrounded by music every day he more and more fell in love with rhythms and melodies. Paul did not only listen to break beats but was also interested in Jazz music. Every year he went to “The North Sea Jazz Festival” with his family and listened to the founders of rhythm and jazz music.

During high school Paul discovered House music. It was love at first sight. Being instantly hooked to the sound of the beat he bought his first turntables and started experimenting with old school vinyl. As a young kid he started sneaking into festivals and raves where his untamable love for live performances was born. Not much later, Paul build his own studio at home. As his room was packed with DJ-stuff he could rarely fit in his bed, he didn’t care though. All Paul needed was his producer gear, a DJ-set and one hell of a speaker set. He started practicing every day to develop his DJ and producing skills equal to the level of his Idols. Paul was inspired by DJ´s as Trentemoller, Mylo, Stephan Bodzin and many more electric legends. Because of the influence of these artists his style changed gradually. He started to experiment with other styles like techno, minimal and deep house. He was always intrigued by these new genres, opposed to his neighbors and family who suffered permanent ear damage.

Jelle has been having a love affair with music for a long time. From early on he has been surrounded with old school rock & roll, jazz and funky blues sounds by his dad, being a musician in the ´80s. Because of this contagious love his dad had for music, Jelle was automatically infected with beats. When he grew a bit older, his Walkman and headphones became a part of his body. Despite the different taste Jelle had for music compared to his friends, he always followed his own feeling on what he liked.

After Jelle was infected by the dance scene his passion and love for music only grew bigger and bigger. Jelle loved the new fresh sound from the upcoming house music at that time. The fat kicks and rolling electric sounds shocked him and instantly made him a speaker junky. So Jelle couldn’t resist when a young house DJ named “Paul Sebastian” asked him if he´d like to practice on his turntables at home. He was deeply inspired when he saw how much you could do with only two turntables and a mixer. He now finally had a chance to let people hear his music in his own creative way. Because his fathers rock band named “Tienergeluk” (Teenage Luck in Dutch), his DJ-name was an easy choice.

Paul and Jelle became friends through high school and shared their love for music early on. Their music style changed over the years but after spending lots of hours behind the turntables together they created their own collective sound. At a certain point these guys were very eager to show their experience to the crowd. That's why they were astonished when they met Roy Avni, the main man and founder of Electronation. Paul and Jelle came in contact with him after winning a DJ-contest on The Electronation Radio Show. He saw much potential in these youngsters and started to add “PSTL” to different parties organized by Electronation. (Electrorated, Paradiso, Dance Valley, NYE party and more)

Next to all these Electronation Parties the guys also hosted their own little festival, called “Deep, Deeper, Deepest”. “D3” is a project that was originally created by a group of close friends of Paul and Jelle. The idea was to organize a party with solely underground techno music. This group of friends was tired of listening to the popular house music that was played at most parties in their neighborhood. So they were excited about the idea of starting their own techno festival. Now they can proudly state they already gave several parties at mysterious underground places. Be aware, because in the future these guys are looking for more new spots to invade!

Through the years Paul and Jelle have developed their own style into what it is today,

raw and deep but always finding  perfect harmony by flowing through all levels of

tech-house and techno. The mix between funky high-tone melodies and loaded bass tunes just gives you goose bumps down your spine.

The upcoming year shows a promising line up for the young talents, not only will

they be resident at the annual “Deep. Deeper. Deepest” festival but they will also

continue to play at various events hosted by Electronation.

As already made clear, these guys are having an intimate relationship with their music and are taking it to the next level. So keep an eye out for PSTL!
